Nanotechnology is the field of technology that works at the atomic and molecular level. It is technology with nanoparticles. It is believed that with nanotechnology such applications can be developed which will solve some major issues and when "nanotech and material science" combines, it becomes a miracle. In 1981, Gerd Binning and Heinrich Rohrer invented the first ever scanning tunnelling microscope and in 1986 they were awarded Nobel Prize in physics. In the same year, Binning, Quate, and Gerber invented the atomic force microscope. These inventions proved to be the golden attainments in the world of nanotechnology.
The two main sections of nanotechnology are BOTTOM-UP which use molecular objects to build material and devices and TOP-UP which uses large components to construct nano-objects.
Applications of Nanotechnology:
The first period of nanotechnology had restricted applications like Sunscreen, cosmetics, surface coatings, food and beverages, enhances the durability of objects. The popular applications today are the reduced size of transistors, lithium-ion battery, early detection of diseases and many more.Nanotechnology with materials:
1. Researchers have generated carbon nanotubes which minimize the flammability of foam in the furniture.2. A composite material constituted of plastic and graphene nanoribbons to be used in soft drink bottles to block the gas molecules.
3. Lightweight electrical cables are presented made up of carbon nanotubes.
